Penicillin-Streptomycin, Pen-Strep Solution
Product Description
Penicillin-Streptomycin (Pen-Strep) solution is a sterile, broad-spectrum antibiotic mixture widely used to prevent bacterial contamination in in-vitro cell culture workflows. Penicillin inhibits Gram-positive bacteria by disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis, while streptomycin binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and primarily targeting Gram-negative organisms.
The combined action of penicillin and streptomycin provides effective protection against a wide range of common bacterial contaminants encountered in mammalian cell culture systems. The solution is sterile-filtered through a 0.1 µm membrane to ensure removal of bacteria and is supplied as a 100× concentrated solution for convenient dilution into culture media.
